GLOSSARY TERM
What is Schema Markup (Structured Data)?
Definition
A standardized vocabulary (Schema.org) used to annotate web content so that search engines and AI models can understand the meaning behind the data — such as products, reviews, FAQs, articles, and organizations.
Why it Matters for AI Search
Schema markup is the #1 technical factor for AI citation. Google AI Overviews are 3.2x more likely to cite pages with proper structured data. It enables rich snippets, FAQ dropdowns, product carousels, and Knowledge Panel entries in search results.
