GLOSSARY TERM
What is JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data)?
Definition
A lightweight, script-based format for embedding structured data (Schema.org markup) into web pages. It uses a <script type="application/ld+json"> tag to describe page content to search engines and AI.
Why it Matters for AI Search
JSON-LD is Google's officially recommended format for structured data. It explicitly tells search engines and AI models exactly what a page is about — removing all guesswork. Sites with proper JSON-LD see dramatically higher chances of rich snippets, Knowledge Panel entries, and AI citations.
