GLOSSARY TERM
What is PageRank?
Definition
Google's original algorithm for ranking web pages based on the quantity and quality of inbound links. The public PageRank toolbar score was discontinued in 2016, but the underlying algorithm still informs Google's ranking systems.
Why it Matters for AI Search
You can't see PageRank scores anymore, but the principle still applies: pages with more high-quality inbound links rank higher. Modern PageRank is augmented by hundreds of other signals, but it remains foundational.
