GLOSSARY TERM

What is SERP Cannibalization?

Definition

When two or more pages on the same site rank for similar queries, splitting clicks and ranking signals — and confusing search engines about which page deserves the higher position.

Why it Matters for AI Search

Cannibalization is more common than people realize. Google "cluster" reports in Search Console reveal it: multiple URLs from your domain showing for the same query. The fix is consolidation — merge the pages or canonicalize one to the other.
