What is TTFB (Time to First Byte)?
Definition
The time between a browser requesting a page and receiving the first byte of the response from the server. A foundational performance metric that affects all downstream Core Web Vitals.
Why it Matters for AI Search
High TTFB (above 800ms) caps how good your LCP and FCP can ever be. Causes include slow server processing, distant origin servers, and heavy database queries. CDN caching and edge rendering are the most common fixes.
