What is rel=prev / rel=next?
Definition
HTML link elements that historically declared paginated sequences (page 1, 2, 3 of a series). Google deprecated official support in 2019 but other engines and AI crawlers still parse them.
Why it Matters for AI Search
Even though Google says it doesn't use them, including rel=prev/next costs nothing and helps Bing, AI engines, and accessibility tools understand pagination. For Google, treat each paginated page as standalone with self-canonical and unique meta data.
