What is Manual Action?
Definition
A penalty applied by a human Google reviewer (rather than an algorithm) for violating webmaster guidelines. Visible in Search Console under Security & Manual Actions.
Why it Matters for AI Search
Manual actions cause sudden, severe ranking drops. Recovery requires fixing the underlying issue and submitting a reconsideration request. Algorithmic penalties are different — they update with the next algorithm refresh and don't require reconsideration.
